In 1864, when Africa was still seen as an "object" of mission, Daniel Comboni had a revolutionary insight: Africans should not only be recipients of the Gospel, but protagonists of their own evangelization.

His "Plan for the Regeneration of Africa" proposed something unheard of for that time: training African missionaries, valuing the role of African women, creating local communities capable of self-sustaining and growing.

Comboni writes the "Plan for the Regeneration of Africa" - first missionary to propose "Saving Africa with Africa"

Foundation of the Institute of the Pious Mothers of Nigritia - with the mission of training African women for mission work

1879

Opening of the second novitiate in El Obeid (Sudan) for young African women - concrete realization of Comboni's dream

Fortunata Quascè, former slave from Sudan, becomes the first African Pious Mother - living symbol of "Saving Africa with Africa"

International communities - A community in Mozambique with sisters from Italy, Kenya, Brazil and Zambia who live together, pray together, serve together.

Shared formation - Intercultural novitiates where young people from different continents grow together in their missionary vocation.

Shared leadership - Superior General from Ireland, Councillor from Uganda, Provincial from Brazil: leadership is truly international.

Mission without borders - African missionaries in Europe and America, European missionaries in Africa and Asia: all "ad gentes," all protagonists.
